Corky Lesson on Mining for Gold Video

Transcript of Narration of Corky Lesson on Mining for Gold Video

Here I am, Corky the shelter dog, exploring the lake and enjoying the sunset on my vacation in Maine. You can practice mining for gold in a lake but there’s better ways. These ducks are only watching. They can’t do what dogs can do, so I’m not worried about them learning my secrets, but I’m telling my friends for free.

Who would have guessed a doggy could mine for gold? We can. It would be easier if we had thumbs because people mine gold in 2 ways. One – they dig in the ground with a pick to find streaks of gold. That can take years. Two – they pan for gold in a stream. That’s easier and faster – especially if you’re a dog.

One day while on vacation it rained hard for hours. That flooded my private beach and left a stream running through it to the lake. This, my friends, was the perfect opportunity to videotape “Corky Lesson on Mining for Gold”.

Unlike humans, dogs have superior senses… and intelligence. My doggy pals can use their nose to sniff gold, so have your human let you smell a gold ring or necklace so you remember the scent. If you didn’t notice, I made a trail going upstream because digging after you smell gold can muddy the water.

By going upstream you only go through clean water which makes sniffing gold easier. Once you think you’ve found a gold nugget it’s time to dig. That’s something else we can do better than humans. Dig dig and dig some more. You will get dirty and that’s half the fun.

Did I find gold? Nope. Or at least “nope” is the official answer. Find gold and brag about it and burglars might steal your gold nuggets when you go for a walk. Give all your gold to your guardians so they can take it to the pawn shop and use the money to buy you doggy treats.

That’s all you need to know about mining for gold. Sniff the gold. Dig the gold. Pawn the gold. Buy treats.

New Large Size Doggy Wallpapers

My site now features new large size doggy wallpapers for people interested in downloading the desktop wallpaper photographs on my website. 267 photographs of me, Corky the shelter dog, plus pictures of dogs and puppies and my favorite dog park were enlarged so now all are 1200 x 900 pixels.

Here’s a cropped version of one of the desktop wallpapers showing me looking up at a black and white spotted great dane.

Bigger, better, and higher quality pet photos replaced the old ones yet kept the same file name, so the links are still good in Google Image Search. As you visit the photo gallery pages, click a thumbnail to view the new size. They were 800 x 600 pixels before, so I made the 1200 x 900 my new standard.

To see examples of the new large size doggy wallpapers visit the Corky Friends Photo Gallery or the Fleet Peeples Park Photo Gallery. On average the file size of each is 5 times bigger.

Click any of the thumbnails and the new 1200 x 900 wallpaper will open on the next screen, and then right-click to download and use as desktop wallpaper on your computer. To save time, you can right-click and select “set as desktop background” to have them immediately replace your old wallpaper. Enjoy!

Somebody Sleeping in MY Bed

Just like little Goldilocks, our new resuce kitty Dexter still doesn’t understand. Caught in the act it’s not just somebody sleeping in MY bed, it’s Dexter! I’m Corky the shelter dog shown here squeezing in, but it could ruin a doggy’s reputation sharing his bed with a c-a-t.

Corky and Dexter kitty share bed

Dexter the rescue kitty has been in our family since July 5, 2011. At the time he only weighed 1.1 lbs. soaking wet. He went to 2.6 lbs. in just 2 weeks. Now he doubled that to 5.2 lbs. since our vacation in August.

On the bright side he’s big enough to play wrestle with me. Being a polite puppy I let him win. On the not so bright side, Dexter kitty is likewise big enough that it’s time for a visit to the vet, aka jewel thief. Yup. Dexter has an appointment to be neutered on Monday.

Besides me and Dexter, our older brother Sam the cat is missing his jewels, too. That’s the price we pay for being rescued into a loving family. If you are thinking of adding a pet to your family, PLEASE visit the local pet shelter.

Millions of healthy pets are euthanized every year because too many people buy pets instead of visiting a pet rescue organization to adopt a cat, kitten, dog, or puppy. With unconditional love from a pet who likes to snuggle, you won’t mind saying you caught “Somebody sleeping in MY bed!”

Wrong Side of the Fence

brave Corky in cow pasture I went on early morning photo shoots with Dad several times lately. We left before dark to time it just right for taking Florida sunrise photographs. A neat place in N Kissimmee is a rural area with a cow pasture so there are no trees or houses between you and the rising sun. Today, as shown here, that’s me, Corky the shelter dog, looking brave as Dad took pictures while I ended up on the wrong side of the fence.

Yes. There are cows and bulls in that pasture. Look at this photo of one bull with long horns taken in the fog last week, and you can understand why I wasn’t allowed on the other side of the fence. Bulls can be dangerous, but don’t I look brave!

Today, I couldn’t resist getting a closer sniff of cow droppings plus I wanted to see just how big cows and bulls really are! If my fur looks mussed up, it is. I left some hair on the barbed wire when sticking my head through to get to that wrong side of the fence. That didn’t last long. Dad called me back after taking a short video of me in the pasture, so getting a closer sniff must wait for another day.

Can you imagine the horror if the bull charged us? I’d have to save Dad and dragging him by an ankle to safety would have been hard work!

Dexter Kitty King of the Castle

If I, Corky the shelter dog, look puzzled in this picture, I am.

I had to ask why is Dexter our rescue kitty lying down in my bed smacking his lips after eating tuna? The answer I expected is NOT because he has tuna juice on his lips!

Dexter kitty in Corky's bed

Let’s try that again, only with a more direct question: WHY is Dexter in MY BED?!!

He’s cute. He’s a kitten. I get it. He’s so cute I want to gag sometimes! I let him play wrestle and tackle me then let him win. Sam our cat does, too. He uses my bushy tail for a toy. I let him.

Dexter has been living here 12 short days while going from abandoned and dumped on the street in our neighborhood to King of the Castle. Let’s hope he matures quickly and learns to share the wealth with the cat and me.

We love the little rascal and want him to stay a part of our happy family, so it’s okay if I let him borrow my bed. He needs to learn it’s still mine!

Price of Gas and Doggy Parks

Mill Slough Dog Park Who would have guessed the impact of the price of gas and doggy parks? The photo shown is Mill Slough Dog Park near home in Kissimmee, Florida. I go there lately because it is 5 minutes away by car.

It is enclosed with a run for larger dogs yet rather small compared to my favorite doggy park and the play area is shared by small and big dogs alike.

Any doggy park visit is better than staying home, so I am NOT COMPLAINING.

The cost of gas for a 2 hour round trip means some animal pal families may not be able to afford going often. That’s the case locally as the price of gas continued to rise in recent months. Mill Slough is not bad, but the biggest problem is being the only dog there almost every time I visit.

Happily gas prices are dropping and I may get back on track to visit my fave park more often. Crosses paws. Says doggy prayer.

Mills Slough Dog Park

The portrait photo here is me, Corky the shelter dog, on a visit last week to Mills Slough Dog Park in Kissimmee, Florida.

dog Corky on a large tree

The dog park is an enclosed area within the larger human park. The photo is in the human park before going in to play in the dog park section.

The tree shown fell over a bajillion years ago, so there’s roots above ground and hollow places for dogs to explore and have fun. As you can see, the roots are BIG and have bark just like branches above ground.

Why am I off leash in the human part of the park? Mostly because I behave and listen to commands like “leave it”. I do “leave it” for squirrels, cats, dogs, people, trash, glass, cigarette butts, and just about anything if Dad says so.

Children could learn from that lesson. With privilege comes responsibility. Be good and you get cool privileges like playing off leash inside (and outside) places similar to Mills Slough Dog Park.

Stay tuned. I have video footage of me climbing that tree to be released soon. The photo here will be the still shot intro at the beginning as voted on by my pals on Twitter.

New Puppy Video with Our Cat

Sam our cat is 10 years older than me and it took 2 years in my forever home for us to become pals. Yesterday Dad took video of both of us pets play wrestling and posted it as a new episode in my life story as Corky the shelter dog.

Later he uploaded it to my YouTube account, so here’s the YouTube version of “Play Wrestle or Play Dead”:

You can follow the link to my Life Story (above) to see all 8 episodes, or visit my 17 doggy videos on YouTube that include even more entertainment with cats, dogs, ducks, and more!

Worry Worry Dog and Bone

This commercial for Travelers Insurance is a classic and a must see for all my puppy pals. After adding this to my list of faves on YouTube I decided to put it here on my blog, too.

The doggy in this video looks a little bit like me. However, even though I might become a shelter dog film or television star one day… that is not Corky in makeup, but he might be my cousin!

No dog should have to worry worry about their bone or health and safety. I’m a rescue dog and encourage my readers to consider a visit to their local shelter if you need a pet and maybe you will adopt a puppy or kitty.

Stuffed Toy Owl from the Flea Market

Corky with stuffed toy owl Today was another spoiled day in the life with Corky the shelter dog story as I got this stuffed toy owl from the flea market. For those from another state or planet, a flea market is NOT a place to get fleas, and besides that doggies should never have to buy them.

In some places a flea market is called a swap meet where people sell new or used stuff for a bargain. I didn’t see anyone swap stuff so why swap meet and I didn’t see any fleas, so why flea market? Humans are confusing!

Whatever you call it, Mom and Dad took me to the Orange County Fairgrounds Flea Market because they allow dogs. Last time we went I barked at half the people I met and some were scared. They don’t know the difference between a friendly bark and a you’re-gonna-get-bit bark. I only have a friendly bark (*Psst – look for the wagging tail as a sign of a friendly bark).

Anyway, the stuffed toy owl shown here was brand spanking new and made like the raccoon stuffed animal I got for Christmas. It’s lasted for months and months without a squeakerectomy, so the parents thought the owl was a good idea! Guess what. It wasn’t for sale.

Today I didn’t bark at half the people I met – maybe 1 in 10, and not at the man selling the owl toy. He LOVED doggies and thought I was extra extra cute and said “For Corky, it’s free!” He even gave me water and ice from his ice chest for a cool treat.

There you have it pals. If going to the flea market don’t worry about fleas. Next, always be friendly and extra cute and you might get free toys, too!
