Dexter Kitty Eats Like a Horse

Dexter the rescue kitty, my new little brother, is a Maine Coon breed kitten and will be 7 months old in another week. He eats like a horse and is already bigger than my little older brother, Sam the cat who is 13 years old, and 8 pounds. The photo collage shown is Dexter kitty at more than nine pounds.

Dexter Kitty Shows Heads and Tails While Playing in a Paper Bag

Nine? Yes, actually 9.6 pounds! The photographs show him playing in a paper grocery bag. Dexter claims all boxes and bags that my parents bring home or get delivered. Previous posts show him playing in a small bubble wrap envelope, and another in a Nike shoe box. No more. He won’t fit.

The photo left is Dexter viewing his domain, and shows why he stole the cuteness title from me. The top right is Dexter poking out of the bag. The bottom right is his bottom sticking out and showing off his huge and fluffy Maine Coon tail.

On my annual checkup earlier this month I weighed in at 21 pounds. Gained 1 in 1 year. Our veterinarian says male Maine Coon cats can grow up to 25 pounds. Say what?!! I’m full grown, so that might mean Dexter will claim the heavyweight champion title for tonnage to add to his cuteness monopoly.

Dexter Kitty on Kitty Condo

Our Maine Coon rescue kitty Dexter has a new kitty condo so he can play or lounge around while viewing his domain from up high. He will be 6 months old on December 5th, and he’s grown from 1.1 lbs. on July 5th to 7.5 lbs. in the last 5 months.

Wow! That Dexter is growing fast! Maine Coon cats are known to be handsome furballs with very fluffy tails. The 3 photos above show Dexter kitty’s condo and fluffy tail (left), a close up of his face and markings (center), and his big kitty paws (right).

You can view these and download enlarged versions for desktop wallpaper on Dad’s Flickr photo stream. Here’s a link to the kitty photo set of Dexter.

Like me, Dexter was abandoned on the street and rescued into a loving home. Thinking of a pet for the holiday season? Please visit an animal shelter or rescue organization to adopt. Unscrupulous breeders and puppy mills are responsible for pet overpopulation which leads to the euthanization of millions of potential animal companions every year.

Pets are not intended to be discarded like yesterday’s trash or newspaper. Before dumping an unwanted pet on the street where it could be killed or injured, please contact a rescue organization or surrender your pet to animal control.

Knowing a pet’s health, behavior, and family history helps place them in a suitable home. Adopt. Don’t buy. Surrender. Don’t abandon. It’s the least your pets deserve. Thanks and hugs.

Somebody Sleeping in MY Bed

Just like little Goldilocks, our new resuce kitty Dexter still doesn’t understand. Caught in the act it’s not just somebody sleeping in MY bed, it’s Dexter! I’m Corky the shelter dog shown here squeezing in, but it could ruin a doggy’s reputation sharing his bed with a c-a-t.

Dexter the rescue kitty has been in our family since July 5, 2011. At the time he only weighed 1.1 lbs. soaking wet. He went to 2.6 lbs. in just 2 weeks. Now he doubled that to 5.2 lbs. since our vacation in August.

On the bright side he’s big enough to play wrestle with me. Being a polite puppy I let him win. On the not so bright side, Dexter kitty is likewise big enough that it’s time for a visit to the vet, aka jewel thief. Yup. Dexter has an appointment to be neutered on Monday.

Besides me and Dexter, our older brother Sam the cat is missing his jewels, too. That’s the price we pay for being rescued into a loving family. If you are thinking of adding a pet to your family, PLEASE visit the local pet shelter.

Millions of healthy pets are euthanized every year because too many people buy pets instead of visiting a pet rescue organization to adopt a cat, kitten, dog, or puppy. With unconditional love from a pet who likes to snuggle, you won’t mind saying you caught “Somebody sleeping in MY bed!”

Corky Thank You Note to Dell Computer

A package with a software order arrived yesterday by UPS and Corky the shelter dog was so impressed he decided to write a thank you note to Dell Computer. Dogs can’t really write so Dad will type and narrate the note in this video to explain why Corky LOVES Dell Computer. You can listen or read the thank you note transcript below this video. (play time: 01:32 min/sec)

Transcript of Video: Corky Thank You Note to Dell Computer

I'm Corky the shelter dog and this is a video starring Dexter the kitty entitled: Corky Thank You Note to Dell Computer. I had to write them to say what a great job they did.

Dear Dell Computer Team,

Dad ordered software from you and saved $50 off normal retail price. That made him smile which made me smile.
You shipped his software in a free kitty toy envelope. Our rescue kitty, Dexter, LOVES his bubble wrap envelope!
Dad took video of Dexter kitty playing with his new toy. He's funny. That made Mom smile which made me smile.

You gave Dad free delivery by UPS Ground and promised his software would arrive in 7 days, or sooner.
Was it enough to save $50, get free freight, PLUS a great new toy? No. You did more to make everyone smile.
He ordered online Wednesday. The UPS driver delivered the software order Thursday, so it arrived the next day.

I love my family. I love watching Dexter our rescue kitty enjoy his new toy. Now I love Dell Computer!

Thanks and hugs,

Corky

The End

Dexter and Corky (plus their older brother Sam the cat) are all rescue pets. Remember: If you have room in your home for a pet, don't buy from a store. Millions of healthy cats and dogs like us are waiting at a nearby shelter to join your family. Thanks!

*Disclaimer: In compliance with the United States Federal Trade Commission Guide for Product Endorsements by bloggers I hereby state that the opinions of me, Corky the shelter dog, or my legal guardian(s) who do my typing, bear no material or financial connection with Dell Computer and the aforementioned positive endorsement of their company was stated independently as a private opinion given willingly without any type of compensation and without prior solicitation or encouragement even though Dell did give Dad $50 off, free freight, and that exceptional free kitty bubble wrap envelope toy.

Dexter Kitty King of the Castle

If I, Corky the shelter dog, look puzzled in this picture, I am.

I had to ask why is Dexter our rescue kitty lying down in my bed smacking his lips after eating tuna? The answer I expected is NOT because he has tuna juice on his lips!

Dexter kitty in Corky's bed

Let’s try that again, only with a more direct question: WHY is Dexter in MY BED?!!

He’s cute. He’s a kitten. I get it. He’s so cute I want to gag sometimes! I let him play wrestle and tackle me then let him win. Sam our cat does, too. He uses my bushy tail for a toy. I let him.

Dexter has been living here 12 short days while going from abandoned and dumped on the street in our neighborhood to King of the Castle. Let’s hope he matures quickly and learns to share the wealth with the cat and me.

We love the little rascal and want him to stay a part of our happy family, so it’s okay if I let him borrow my bed. He needs to learn it’s still mine!

Dexter the Attack Kitty and Sam

Here’s a video of our newest family member, Dexter the rescue kitty. He lives here after being dumped on the street in our neighborhood when he only weighed 1.1 lbs. In the video Dexter the attack kitty is pestering Sam, our 12 year old (rescue) cat, by swatting and biting his tail.

Sam is being good and just lets the kitty have fun. Watch for my cameo appearance, Corky the shelter dog, at around 00:56 seconds just making sure everyone is playing fair. (Playtime: 01:39 min/sec)

I must admit Dexter the rescue kitty has cuteness galore. See more photos of Dexter the kitty on Flickr for close up shots showing his colors and other cute kitty poses. You can see this same video and more Corky the shelter dog videos on YouTube, too.

Little Younger Brother Dexter

Sam our cat and I, Corky the rescue dog, have a new brother as of 5 July 2011. The photo collage shown here is my little younger brother Dexter the rescue kitty. He is an original cutie patootie who can give lessons on cuteness!

Dexter the rescue kitty collage

That makes 3 male rescue pets with a rescue dog, a rescue cat, and now a rescue kitty in our family, plus Mom and Dad!

Similar to me, who was dumped on the street and sent to doggy jail before being rescued, Dexter was dumped on the street in our neighborhood at night on July 5th. The poor little rascal was confused and scared because he is a teenie tiny little baby kitty.

Lucky for Dexter, he found us before the animal control people found him. He is a very young kitten and weighs exactly 1.1 lbs. which happens to be an important number. In Osceola County Florida shelter pets must be at least 2 lbs. to qualify for spay or neuter and adoption, so any stray pets captured under 2 lbs. are immediately put to sleep!

Once my parents heard that (and were told “Bring him back next week when he’s at least 2 lbs.”) they decided to keep him as our newest family member. They didn’t have a name picked out because they were unsure about keeping him. After watching him for 24 hours and thinking of cool names, they decided, so now Dexter joins Sam our cat, and me – Corky the shelter dog, for one big happy family.

For now we can only guess based on Dexter weighing 1.1 lbs. that he’s about 5 weeks old. Dexter the rescue kitty has brown tabby colors with tufted ear tips which look very much like a Maine Coon breed cat. We’ll find out if he is truly a Maine Coon Cat when he grows a little more and pick out a birthday from advice when he goes to the vet.

Pawpal eCard Sent to Corky

Earlier this week my email included a pawpal ecard sent to Corky as shown below. The St Patty’s Day card was from a special Twitter doggy pal who also lives in Florida. His name is Buddy and he tweets as @WhereIsBuddy. Follow him on Twitter to see what he’s doing!

eCard from Buddy and cute kittens

The writing says “May the luck of the Irish be with you!” and the red arrow points to “Buddy (@WhereIsBuddy)”. The illustration shows me looking at the card and reading it to two very cute kittens.

Why cute kitties? BOL! People can’t resist cute little kittens so even MORE pals will look at my card. Haha.
